As part of a broader strategic plan for a sustainable urban renewal of Southern Copenhagen we participted in initial experiment process which were to test new possible new functions and target groups around the library of Karens Minde culture house.
The temporary project, named The Library Garden, aimed to engage the citizens, to know what they thought the library of the future should contain.
The result was an equipped a former car park, turned into a multifunctional meeting place with recreational leisure activities and green interests.
Our response was a low-cost temporary playful wooden structure with a mixture of books, plants and people in one open and democratic public space connected to the old library with the adjoining park.
The green outdoor library was co-created with the society in the South Habour area, Copenhagen Municipal Area Renewal, the local association ‘The South Habour Plants’ and Emergency Architecture & Human Rights.
